Reasons Teens LOVE Invisalign

Clear Appearance
Invisalign aligners are clear and virtually undetectable. This allows teens to straighten their teeth without anyone ever noticing that they are going through treatment.

Removable
You remove your aligners to eat, drink, and brush and can remove them for that special occasion, meaning that, unlike with traditional orthodontic treatments, there are no foods you have to avoid. Additionally, you can maintain your current dental hygiene regimen. For the best results and a timely outcome, aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day.

Eat Anything
Trays should be removed prior to eating, and for your lucky teen (and you possibly as meal maker) this means no dining restrictions. Patients with traditional braces must refrain from eating sticky foods, crunch foods, meat with bones (ie. buffalo wings), hard fruit, corn on the cob, popcorn and so much more, but with Invisalign those restrictions are not an issue.

Active Lifestyle
Teens who are already engaging in sports or physical activity don’t need to change their lifestyle or worry about brackets and wires doing damage to their mouths, or conversely, damaging their metal braces in rough play. The Invisalign Teen trays are a smooth fit, and let them play their best.

Dental Hygiene
The Invisalign trays are removed in order to brush and floss, and that makes good oral hygiene easier and quicker to achieve. Your teen will also need to clean the trays, but that also makes them feel more comfortable and fresh.

Comfort
Invisalign is made of a smooth, comfortable material. There are no wires to poke or brackets to break with Invisalign so it is much more comfortable for you to wear and live with.

Fewer Orthodontic Visits
With Invisalign Teen there is generally less time in our office than with other treatments. Appointments are needed about every 10-12 weeks with the average treatment time with Invisalign being about 10-14 months.

Summer & Invisalign Teen

Perfect Combination

Invisalign Teen, orthodontic treatment can be started at any time, but as we enter Summer, there are even more compelling reasons to start NOW!

Invisalign uses a series of progressively changing transparent aligners that are each worn for a week. These aligners are precisely made with exact calculations to shift your teeth into their ideal position, giving your teen a straighter, more beautiful smile.

So, here’s three reasons why Summer is the perfect time to make your initial appointment with Sunshine Orthodontics about Invisalign Teen.

1) Time for appointments: Without the obligations of school, teens have more time for orthodontic appointments. You might have more time yourself, especially at the end of vacations or staycations.

2) Time to get used to Invisalign: There are some adjustments to make, but not as many as with traditional braces. Your teen can brush, floss, and eat without the Invisalign tray which is removed during that time. They will have time to get used to wearing the trays for most of the day, keeping them clean, and changing to the next tray as prescribed without the additional pressures of school.

3) Results starting to show for back-to-school: The treatment won’t be complete for the first day of school, but confidence will have risen and a new and improving smile will be ready to share, significant improvement may be apparent by “Picture Day”.

We look forward to hearing from you

Happy Birthday Invisalign!

You’re 20 years old!

Most people have heard of Invisalign, the invisible way to straighten teeth with removable aligners, but do you know the history of this innovative orthodontic product? Align Technology the creators of Invisalign, was founded in 1997 by Zia Chishti and Kelsey Wirth in San Jose, California. Chishti was an adult orthodontic patient when he came up with the idea of Invisalign. He was struggling with a retainer as part of his own treatment, and realized that such an approach could probably be used for the entire orthodontic procedure. Like so many startup success stories, they began developing their product in a garage! Intensive research in CAD modeling, capturing geometry and 3D printers was necessary to get the aligners on track. Ultimately, they perfected the necessary programming for “incremental retainers,” thanks to access to a campus lab. Invisalign received Food and Drug Administration approval in 1998 and today, Invisalign is in high demand.

In the year 2000 seventy-five percent of all orthodontists in the United States were trained in Invisalign systems — and then the founders offered it to general dentists.
However, it’s still best to trust only an orthodontist with your orthodontic needs, whether braces or Invisalign. Contact Sunshine Orthodontics today for a free Invisalign consultation.

We love our Adult Patients!

The number of adults seeking orthodontic treatment has increased every year, the percentage of adults in active treatment has grown from about 15% to over 30% in 2017. Below are pros and cons of adult treatment and how it is different from adolescent treatment.

We love our adult patients. They are typically better informed, more motivated, follow instructions better, and usually have better oral hygiene than adolescents. Most adult patients have a better understanding of their own condition and the possible treatment options than younger patients. Unlike teenagers who are many times compelled by their parents, adult patients usually pursue treatment because they want it or because they have been referred by their dentist. These differences usually result in better compliance.

Adult patients do face some challenges not faced by younger patients however. First, they are no longer growing, growth can be a helpful in correcting many types of malocclusion. Examples of this include expanding the palate, opening the bite (by changing the direction of growth), and reducing the “overbite” (by restricting the forward growth of the upper jaw). Additionally, because their metabolism is slower than in growing patients, tooth movement in adults is usually slower and therefore their treatment times longer. Finally, adults tend to have more missing and compromised teeth (worn, misshaped, restored, etc.). This sometimes limits the options that are available to them.

On the upside, adult patients are usually more motivated and compliant than adolescents and are therefore better candidates for esthetic options like Invisalign clear aligners.
